Veronika Schäpers is without question one of the most skillful protagonists among today’s book artists.
Her elaborate text arrangements are neither simply illustrated nor typographic books, but instead are best characterized as visual compositions.
The technical and material variety of her work is obviously influenced by the many years she spent living in Japan.
In this course you will learn the adhesive-free technique „Loop-Stitch-Binding“ which she developed for the bel libro-contest in 2003.
In this technique a flexible folded cover made of cardboard and the single layers are punched and bound with fishing line.
Additionally you can also connect a broken spine.
Referring to the punched holes in the spine we will integrate a simple design of the cover and pages to connect content and binding.
Veronika Schäpers developed the technique without having a press or cardboard cutter available, making the Loop Stitch a technique you can realize with just a few tools.
